Being left behind or forgotten
Story prompt
The other morning at coffee with friends, we started talking about times we’d been forgotten. One friend and her mother had been in a doctor’s examination room for ages and were only discovered when the nurse came around to turn out the lights. Another friend was forgotten in a confessional booth as a child. Yikes!
Do you have a story about being forgotten somewhere?
Or maybe you have a story about being left behind. My cousin remembers being told that our aunt came home from school to find that the family had moved. Apparently it was a sudden move, due to a water line break or something. The new house wasn’t far. The dog was still at the old house. How had they not remembered to tell her? The details will remain a mystery, as all concerned have died.
In my mother’s journals, there’s an entry where she couldn’t find me, and she had to get to school to pick up the older kids. Dad wasn’t around that afternoon. She just left, I guess assuming it would be fine. I was three or four. Apparently, I had gone over to the neighbors’ house and I did turn up after Mom and the big kids got home.
