Mr Wiggle and Mr Waggle is one of my favorite stories for very young children. There’s something about the “pop!” that catches the attention of tinies. It’s simple to learn and to tell. I learned it from storyteller Laura Bobrow in the early 1990s. She heard it from another storyteller. Many storytellers use this story, and of course, it changes with the telling. Who knows who first made it up?*
In 2016, I did a version of it in English and French for Kentucky Educational Television. Curious? Check it out here.
Thanks to Lesa at the Iola Public Library for asking me if I had a recording of the story—that’s why I made this post.
*If you know who made the story up, please tell me so I can give credit!
I learned this at a workshop long ago, only it was Mr. Green and Mr. Brown. It is certainly a favorite, especially if I give each child a colorful happy face on their thumbs! I have learned to add a few details, like playing at the park. My students will love the addition, thank you.
Fun story! Thanks for the reminder to share with the littlest niblings. <3
